Galapagos Islands

Galapagos Islands: Endemic Wildlife Tour: Cruising the Eastern Route

About this Experience

August 9th to 19th, 2028

Embark on a journey led by renowned author, photographer, and naturalist Stan Tekiela through the islands that have long intrigued outsiders with their endemic flora and fauna, geological activity, and unusual terrain. Accompanied by an onboard naturalist guide, this small-group cruise expedition offers a front-row seat for exploring the eastern islands. Stunning formations like saw-toothed Kicker Rock and Cerro Brujo, volcanic calderas, sandy beaches, and flamingo lagoons play host to iconic wildlife like Red- and Blue-footed Boobies, marine turtles, giant tortoises, iguanas, and more. With no fear of human predation, many creatures can be approached at close range; you can even swim with the sea lions. Also examine the archipelago’s dramatic human history, from 18th century whalers and pirates to its role in World War II and present-day inhabitants.

PLEASE NOTE: This itinerary is subject to change without prior notice due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g. weather) or at the discretion of the captain, guide, or the Galápagos National Park.

Trip Details

Wildlife photography can be physically demanding. Often including extreme terrain- long hikes at high altitude, damp forests with uneven roots, sandy beaches that sink beneath your boots, deep snow, and frigid temperatures, or boats swaying under your feet while your lens tracks a moving animal. Conditions may vary by destination, or even by day. This is why participants must be in good general physical condition and health.

You must be able to walk for multiple hours and carry your own camera gear. There are no exceptions to these physical requirements.

All trips may not be suitable for every traveler. If you have questions about the physical requirements of this trip, contact Stan at stan@naturesmart.com or visit the Holbrook Travel website.
